Union Settlement was founded in 1895 by individuals who were concerned about the wellbeing of East Harlem's growing immigrant population. They saw great need amongst the population for food & security, education & work, and health & wellness.

The demographics of the neighborhood have changed over the decades, but the determination of residents to secure a job, an education, a place to call home — and to live a healthier life — is as strong as ever.
