EMBODYING OUR GREATNESS, OWNING OUR POWER

Over the past decade Body Wisdom, as an organization, has made strides toward cultivating a more expansive Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community. Acknowledging the need to dissolve barriers within the organizational structure that kept BIPOC participants at bay, Body Wisdom created initiatives to make diversity, inclusion, and equity a reality by making Racial Equity and Transformation (RET) a priority. This has been expressed through the creation of a RET Mini Grant program, the hiring of two BIPOC Liaisons, the sponsoring of bi-annual BIPOC retreats and tuition support for Leader Training. These are a few examples of the initiatives that are supporting Body Wisdom in dissolving barriers within the organization that have, in the past, kept the BIPOC community relatively small, and very spread out across the country and different parts of the world.
In 2016 the BIPOC leaders within the InterPlay community, prioritized their own desire to come together as a group body, to have time in a retreat setting to learn about one another, love on each other, and lean into the beauty and diversity of shared BIPOC struggles. Building upon this intention, we now seek to help heal the BIPOC group body from growing attacks on our humanity, dignity and very lives, as exampled by, the murder of George Floyd (which happened one day after our 2020 online BIPOC retreat); the closing of state and university Diversity, Equity and Inclusion offices around the country; the growth of for profit prisons; red-lining, followed by parasitic "gentrification"; continued police violence and more.the pandemic and the backlash created by the murder of George Floyd (which happened one day after our 2020 online BIPOC retreat) and the subsequent verdict created trauma in many BIPOC communities. The InterPlay BIPOC community is eager to reunite in person to heal themselves toward a broader healing of us all.
As the Body Wisdom organization evolves beyond it’s two co-founders, Phil Porter and Cynthia Winton Henry, and moves into uncharted territory, the 2024 InterPlay BIPOC Retreat will be a pivotal gathering and fertile ground for BIPOC participants to heal, play and gain clarity about their role in the co-creation of the next chapter of Body Wisdom’s life and expansion.
While we are extremely grateful Body Wisdom has made an investment in a modest number of scholarships, your support is crucial to help ensure that historical and current financial inequities do not prevent as many BIPOC community members as possible from attending the Connective Cellular Collaboration retreat. We would be extremely grateful if you could donate $100 or more to help make this retreat a reality for all those wishing to attend.
The retreat will take place at the Learning Campus of Gulf State Park, in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Additionally, your donation will help with shuttles to and from the Pensacola Florida International Airport.
Thank you in advance, your generous contribution will go toward creating more tuition scholarships, and supporting the shuttling of participants.
