For LATRO's 2021 corporate end-of year employee-driven giving campaign, you have the opportunity to give towards the Bayat Foundation's new "We Give So They May Live" campaign. More details below.

$5,000 of $5,000

Per the Bayat Foundation's wider "We Give So They May Live" campaign recently launched:

“Afghanistan is now among the world’s worst humanitarian crises – if not the worst – and food security has all but collapsed. This winter, millions of Afghans will be forced to choose between migration and starvation unless we can step up our life-saving assistance, and unless the economy can be resuscitated” - World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley.  According to the World Food Programme, 18.8 million Afghans are already facing hunger and this number is expected to increase to 22.8 million by March of 2022 if we do not act fast enough - that is 55% of the population!

A recent UN report noted that Afghanistan is on a ‘countdown to catastrophe’ without urgent humanitarian relief, revealing a 37 per cent surge in the number of Afghans facing acute hunger since April 2020. Those at risk include 3.2 million children under five, who are expected to suffer from acute malnutrition by the end of the year, 1 million of whom risk – without immediate life-saving treatment - dying from severe acute malnutrition (https://news.un.org/en/story/2021/10/1103932).  The Bayat Foundation team on the ground in Afghanistan has been actively assisting thousands of displaced families (IDPs) since mid-August, distributing food, carpets, water, baby formula, blankets, and other essential medical necessities which have been purchased in-country to meet this growing need as the cost of food has risen, unemployment has escalated and families are unable to access their bank accounts. You can see the reports here

The Bayat Foundation's “We Give So They May Live” campaign will raise funds to enable us to further expand operations in Afghanistan and nourish the lives of those at-risk displaced Afghan refugees and others who are victims of a collapsing economy, national drought, and COVID related health and economic challenges, especially as a harsh winter is also on its way. Winters in Afghanistan are extreme - temperatures plummet, snow and ice cover large parts of the country each year.

It also allows us to continue the completion of the new Bayat maternal and early childhood health hospital in Kabul, a facility that will feature specialized clinics to diagnose and treat women’s cancer, treat burns, and help those affected by obstetric fistula.

The foundation has been, is, and will continue to be active on the ground nourishing the lives of millions of Afghans, as we have been since 2005. With your continued support and that of the international community, we can do so much more.  The Bayat Foundation remains determined and resolute to do all that we can and serve as many at-risk Afghans as our resources allow. At a time where Afghanistan needs our help more than ever, please join us in our mission to ease the suffering of millions of Afghan children, mothers, and families, and help us to make a critical difference in their health, education, nutrition, and overall well-being.

Your tax-deductible gift, no matter how big or small, can make the difference between life or death for malnourished and suffering Afghans.

Let us give so that they may live!
