Calvin Allen is Executive Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) a top-ranked children’s hospital with an annual revenue of $4.1 billion and a workforce of 30,000. In this role, Calvin, reports to the President & CEO and staffs the Executive Compensation and Human Capital Committee of the Board of Trustees. A recognized authority on organizational culture and translating strategy into execution, he has more than 30 years’ strategic and operational experience in nonprofit and for-profit sectors. 

Prior to joining CHOP, Calvin spent thirteen years as the Senior Vice President of Human Resources & Corporate Strategic Planning for HealthPartners in Minnesota, an integrated healthcare provider and insurance company. His background also includes roles in accounting, sales, strategy, business development and operations. He has held positions at Willis Towers Watson, Cargill, GE Capital Corporation and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

He has presented on leadership, well-being, corporate culture and strategy at many conferences and participated in the release of the U.S. Surgeon General’s framework on Workforce Mental Health & Well-being.

Calvin is a member of various professional and civic organizations at the national and local levels. He is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and the Philadelphia Society of People & Strategy and serves on the Philadelphia CHRO Governing Body. He is currently the Treasurer and Chair of the Finance & Development Committee of CaringBridge, an organization whose vision is to create a world where no one goes through a health journey alone. He is also a member of the Audit & Compliance Committee of the Children’s Hospital Association. His past board experience includes the Greater Twin Cities United Way, the Twin Cities YMCA, the World Impact Executive Board and Second Harvest Heartland.

Calvin was named one of the Most Influential Executives in Corporate America by Savoy Magazine and was twice named one of Philadelphia’s Most Influential African Americans by the Philadelphia Tribune. He has also received several honors from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal including being named to their annual 40 Under 40 list, as well as being recognized twice as a Leader in Diversity.

Calvin holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, from the University of Notre Dame.

Calvin is married, has two children, and currently resides outside of Philadelphia, PA.
