Dr James “Jim” Boyle passed unexpectedly on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Dr. Boyle was a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon. He was most recently employed at the Precision Surgical Center of Northwest Arkansas, LLC, also at Agility Center Orthopedics. Prior to this most recent position, Dr. Boyle worked in Joplin, MO with the Freeman Sports Medicine program as an Orthopedic Surgery Specialist. Dr Boyle, a native New Yorker, had worked with athletes at every level including high school, college, and university as well as professional athletes with the NY Giants and Boston Red Sox.
Jim Boyle played collegiate football for the University of Maryland as an offensive lineman and continued his studies at the State College of New York at Buffalo for Medical School. Dr. Boyle graduated from the Jacobs School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences at The Univ of Buffalo in 2004. His residency was in Orthopedic Surgery at the Albany Medical Center Hospital and his Sports Medicine Fellowship in the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Boyle had over 18 years of experience in the medical field and had helped countless people recover from a variety of orthopedic ailments. The measure of a person often is done by their accomplishments….how much money they made, how many awards they gathered, or by how much “stuff” they had. In this case, the true measure of the lasting affect that Jim Boyle had on those he cared for, interacted with, befriended and loved is measured by those that wish to see his legacy continue on. Dr Boyle rarely backed away from any athlete, parent or sports group that needed some assistance, and he would willingly work to improve the lives of those who came to him for help. While Jim Boyle was a mountain of a man, he was a very kind man with a spirit for helping others.
Dr. Boyle served in many capacities within the Joplin Area, including serving as the Team Physician for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College (NEO) and Webb City High School and Assistant Webb City Football Coach. He was not only an assistant coach and team physician, he was a mentor for many student athletes and friends as well as a dedicated friend for those who got to know him. Never one to hide his opinion or his emotions, Jim Boyle often gave the best advice in the simplest of ways: “Take care of it right now”, “Don’t be lame”, “You and I are winners. We don’t have it in us to lose anything.” And of course, “Don’t trust skinny people when it comes to food”. His presence was almost as big as his kind heart. Always a giver he also lived by the mantras: “Spend your money for a while, you’ve earned it”, and “pay it forward”.
Doc will be missed by his former players, fellow coaches, friends and family.
We are dedicated to the long-term memory of doctor Boyle by creating an opportunity to support a football player planning to attend post-secondary education with a scholarship. This scholarship will be dedicated to supporting a scholarships for a Webb City Senior Football player, preferably an Offensive Lineman, in order to support furthering their education beyond High School, regardless of any post HS football opportunities.
