Food Makes a House a Home
This October, Asheville-area REALTORS® join together on a month-long campaign to help feed thousands of families that face hunger everyday across Western North Carolina. With each house closing in October, a participating REALTOR® will make a $100 donation to MANNA FoodBank in honor of their client, in lieu of a traditional closing gift, providing 400 meals to our WNC Community. Participation in this campaign elevates the REALTOR® within industry by demonstrating the appreciation for their client in a way that has a tangible impact in their community. Realty firms may match their REALTORS® donation, stretching the impact of the gift even further. Every dollar raised in this campaign helps provide food for 4 meals to our WNC community.

At MANNA FoodBank, the pandemic has been both a marathon and a sprint for all aspects of our operations – and it does not appear that it will let up anytime soon. At our partner pantries and mobile distributions, we are seeing that there are still significant numbers of the working poor who, despite all of their efforts and creative resiliency solutions, cannot make ends meet between their income and rising costs of living. Additionally, we are seeing a growing number of seniors on fixed incomes who are facing hard choices about whether they should pay their utility bill, or spend that money on food. These are choices that no one should have to make. When we consider the ever-widening gap between the high cost of living in our beautiful region and the low-incomes many people receive, it is not surprising that many people are facing food insecurity. With our area experiencing the highest rental costs in the state, which exceed the nationwide average, and wages that fall beneath the state and national averages, it becomes easy to realize that the math in countless people’s budgets just does not add up. In partnership with individuals and businesses, MANNA FoodBank is committed to ensuring that every family facing an empty table in WNC can get access to the food they need to live and thrive. Thanks to our real estate partners, Closing on Hunger will help fill many empty plates across Western North Carolina.
