To address emergency needs in the COVID-19 pandemic, we are honored to share with you a rapid-response fundraising effort, the Maine Women’s Fund SAFETY FIRST FOR WOMEN FUND.
The SAFETY FIRST FOR WOMEN FUND will allow the Maine Women's Fund to shift resources and attention to two of the biggest needs facing women across Maine today: domestic violence and the needs of direct care workers.
Maine Women's Fund works in close partnership with an amazing community of non-profit and public and private foundations leaders here in Maine. As we learned more about what others were doing, we saw some important gaps. Maine Women's Fund, in partnership with our broad network of donors, advocates and corporate supporters, is in a unique position to stand with those women on the front lines of this pandemic in two key ways:
The SAFETY FIRST FOR WOMEN FUND will provide immediate:
- Support to organizations and families experiencing increased Domestic Violence (globally, DV rates have doubled) with a grant to The Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence to distribute directly to their 9 member orgs and the Wabanaki Women's Coalition; and
- Advocacy for policy change that supports the needs of Direct Care workers through a grant to Maine Council on Aging, including working with State and Federal leaders to improve access to PPE and COVID-19 testing, while quickly building out the existing workforce.
We are asking for your help to raise $150,000 by the end of May. All funds given to the Safety First for Women Fund will go directly to the work of the two organizations listed above.
Please join us in standing with those women on the front lines of this pandemic!
