GridLiance Challenge

$24,654.03 of $30,000

GridLiance is the proud sponsor of the 2020 GridLiance Challenge at Big Brothers Big Sisters’ virtual gala on November 7, 2020. By partnering with other businesses to meet its $30,000 investment in BBBS, GridLiance will build a $60,000 matching gift fund. BBBS and its supporters will work to match that amount during the paddle raise portion of virtual gala – raising a total of $120,000 to improve the lives of children across Greater Dallas. Participating businesses will be highlighted as GridLiance Challenge partners during the program and throughout the course of the virtual event experience.

GridLiances' s Mentoring in Action

Cindy and Ana have been matched since November 2018. Together, they have faced life’s ups and downs and have grown from the experience. According to Ana and Cindy, they bring out the best in each other.
Ana has been an eager mentee. Having graduated from Irving High School, she has started college. Cindy worked to prepare Ana for college and is now helping her navigate her first semester of college online. BBBS recognized Cindy’s efforts, and she was named the best new match for the junior class at Irving High School.

In return, Ana has taught Cindy patience. Ana’s fierce determination has also inspired her with her “go-getter” attitude toward life.

Having previously volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters in San Antonio in 2010, Cindy said being a mentor is a rewarding experience and is an easy commitment to make. While Cindy has now transitioned to the Post-Secondary Success Program, she returned to the organization in 2018 through Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star mentor 2.0 program. Cindy pointed out the mentor 2.0 program is perfect for those that want to contribute to the local community but are worried they don’t have the time. During her mentorship with Ana, she has juggled a full-time job and became a mother for the first time.

As a Big in the mentor 2.0 program, Cindy communicated with Ana once a week through a secure online platform and attended in-person events at the high school. Now she talks to Ana throughout the week as needed, and they’ve scheduled Zoom calls twice a month to talk about families, friends, work, college and much more.
Cindy said the time she has invested is well worth the effort of helping Ana reach her true potential. She said it was exciting to watch Ana grow during her junior and senior years at Irving High School and graduate. And now, Cindy looks forward to helping Ana get through her freshman year in college.
