Before the pandemic, North and South Carolina’s food insecurity rates were ~14% for adults while the rate for children in our states was ~20% or 1 in 5 children. Obviously, the pandemic has only worsened the issue of food insecurity and put an even greater burden on our food banks and food pantries.
As USDA employees our official motto is to “Do right and feed everyone.” We work everyday to ensure farmers have what they need to provide the food we all need in a sustainable way. Here is another opportunity for us to help those most in need in these challenging times.
Feeding the Carolinas provides food through a network of 10 Feeding America Food Banks and close to 4000 smaller charities (food pantries/community kitchens/ church food pantries/ etc…) Through the virtual food drive site you can choose for your donation to go to a food bank in your region or allow Feeding the Carolinas to distribute it in the Carolinas where the need is greatest.
This campaign will start as part of the Feds Feed Families initiative but may run longer if we can keep momentum going.
Any amount helps so please consider donating. Weekly small contributions are an option as well!
